Is there someone you don’t want to talk to? Do you want to hide your presence from a contact? Don’t worry: with QQ International you have full control over your privacy and visibility.
Tap on the “Contacts” tab in the bottom navigation bar, then select the contact you want to block. Tap on the top-right corner pop-up the following menu and select “Visibility and Permissions”:
From the menu below you can choose to block the user (the contact won’t be able to see you online or contact you when sending a message), or ignore the selected users’ updates on Qzone (you won’t see any new post by the selected contact).
On QQ International you have full control on how you want to be found by other contacts, and whether to appear or be hidden to the wider QQ userbase.
QQ International for Android and iOS
First tap on the Settings tab in the lower navigation bar and then “Security and Privacy”:
From this menu you can control every single aspect of your visibility to other users who still haven’t added you to their contact list.
QQ International for Windows
Go to Settings from the main panel:
Then go to Privacy and Visibility:
If you cannot login because you’re shown an error message saying “The message history has been encrypted. Please enter the encrypted password first” it is because you have decided to encrypt your message history.
This password can be different from your QQ sign-in password. If you have forgotten it, we won’t be able to help you reset it for security reasons.
As a last resort you can try to locate your QQ International installation path on your computer and look for a folder named after your account’s QQ ID. By deleting its contents you will be able to sign into QQ International again although you’ll lose all historical data and received files.
The best way to safeguard your privacy is to manage your visibility to other contacts who want to add you. To change these settings you need to be on QQ International for Windows – we’re sorry but QQ International for smartphone currently doesn’t support this feature.
First off, you need to bring up the main panel and then click on the “Settings” icon:
Now choose “Privacy” from the tabbed navigation at the top of the window – the first element in the left hand side list is “Visibility” and that’s exactly what you need to tweak. You can choose exactly how others can find your contact and how to manage new friendship requests.
We recommend you to make sure that new requests need your manual approval. In this way you’ll receive a notification each time someone wants to become your friend, and you’ll have a chance to scrutinize their profile before agreeing and reciprocating their invitation.
In alternative you can setup a security question that will be asked to anyone trying to add you as a contact. Only persons who can provide you with a satisfying answer will be allowed to add you as their friends. This setting is great for those of you who are very privacy-conscious.
To block contacts, right click the contact you want to block then “Privacy Settings” and “Block Permanently” from the menu.
Blocked contacts won’t be able to reach you or see your online status at all, and they will be collected in a specific contacts category as you can see below:
To unblock the contact you need to right click on it and select “Add to Contact List”.
You will send a new friend request to the blocked contact. As soon as your request is approved the contact will be deleted from your blocked list and added to your friend list.
Some people prefer not to show their typing status while they’re chatting or their location when someone hovers on the contact’s profile picture. You can disable these through the “Settings” panel:
Then select the “Privacy” tab and “Status Sharing”:
